Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of spreading false claims regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has yet to be released.
A persistent false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's biological sex.
Their legal filing contends that Owens ignored all credible evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her show and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
